If you are exploring speech, language and social communication therapy services, the first thing to understand is that children develop speech and social skills at different times, so don’t get overly worried if other children seem to be ahead of yours.

However, if you notice something in the way your child speaks or communicates at home or in social situations that concerns you:

First: Check it against the the speech and language development milestones here (need to add link) to confirm there may be a condition worth assessing.

Second: If there is any cause for concern, contact us with your questions or set up a free initial consultation (link).

It’s important to evaluate any concerns from multiple perspectives including 1-on-1 and group social dynamics. Our free consultation will offer guidance for navigating any professional therapy your child may need.  Or, feel free to email us if you’re looking for general information.

You and your family can expect your PUP therapist to have fully reviewed your background information from enrollment before the first meeting. Sessions are designed to last 45 minutes. Our first session will focus on trust building and interactions designed to identify the best treatment plan for your child’s needs.

After every session, PUP offers an optional 15 minute parental/family consultation. The first post-session consultation usually ends with an in-depth discussion regarding the anticipated treatment plan options, special needs and concerns, and establishing the most convenient schedule for your needs.

While PUP customizes sessions due to individual needs, our typical session is scheduled for 45 minutes of 1-on-1 or group therapy, followed by an optional 15 minute post-session consultation or training.  Some sessions will involve different locations to test progress in various social environments.

Once the initial treatment has been solidified, your PUP therapist will establish a meeting time to provide you with our comprehensive periodic “PUPdate” report, which reviews current and long-term objectives and progress.

We’ve built our services to provide the warmth, joy, and unconditional love that puppies bring to so many people, including those with learning disabilities and social communication disorders.

PUP is committed to understanding the unique needs of our clients and families and believe that “People Understanding People” is the key to helping our clients reach their full potential.

Plus, we love puppies too! Below is Nellie, our resident “PUP.” She is training to one day be an official Autism Service Dog, but for now she is an expert in cuddles and naps!
